THE legendary Kidman and Co. pastoral company is up for sale, as the family looks to exit from one of the country's highest profile pastoral operations.
The business will be sold in its entirety as a going concern, including stock, plant and property.
The Kidman family, which owns 98 per cent of the of the iconic Kidman and Co. business announced their decision to sell last night.
S. Kidman & Co is one of Australia's largest beef producers with a herd of 200,000 cattle.
It is also Australia’s largest private landholder with 11 cattle stations and a feedlot covering more than 100,000 square kilometres across Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland and South Australia.
The historic company, founded in 1899 by Sidney Kidman, is headquartered in Adelaide and employs 170 staff.
Its portfolio includes Anna Creek Station in South Australia, which at 23,000 km2 is the largest cattle property in the world.
Other holdings are Durham Downs, Durrie, Glengyle, Morney Plains, Naryilco and Rockybank in Qld, Innamincka, Macumba and Tungali in South Austalia, Helen Springs in the Northern Territory and Ruby Plains in Western Australia.
S. Kidman and Co. managing director Greg Campbell said the family was selling to capitalise on the present demand for quality Australian agricultural assets.
“Many of the family have other existing investments in Australian agriculture and elsewhere and the sale will allow them to convert long term capital gains into cash to support their other businesses and investments,” he said.
