AFTER less than 12 months in the game, 18-year-old Jesse Joseph of Mogul Brahman stud, Maclean, took out the beef cattle State judging competition championship at Sydney Royal Show.
Jesse qualified as a second placegetter in beef cattle judging at Lismore Show and his experience began at the Royal last year when he tried out with Mogul during the show for a full-time job with success.
North Coast-bred at Dunoon near Lismore, Jesse attended Richmond River High School before leaving to work at Mogul stud.
Reserve champion was Tyla Comerford of Dubbo, who is studying Year 11 at The Scots School, Bathurst.
The 16-year-old has her own Limousin stud at Dubbo and plans to be a geneticist after experience in Canada and the Northern Territory.
Tyla has been competing at cattle judging competitions for three years.
She bred a Limousin steer which she entered in the show’s steer and carcase competition which gained he a bronze carcase award.
Twenty-eight competitors from throughout the State and one from New Zealand displayed their judging prowess in three beef rings of four cattle – Brahman bulls, Limousin heifers and Poll Hereford bulls.
