The RAS All Breeds Beef sale will be held on Sunday March 29 from 5pm in the Amphitheatre at Sydney Showground.
THE future for Hereford breeding in Australia is optimistic, making it an ideal time to move towards expanding the exposure of a stud.
That's the word from the people behind prominent Southern NSW stud Kanimbla Poll Herefords, who will this year have a heifer in the RAS All Breeds Beef Sale for the first time.
"Hereford breeding is on the up and up in Australia at the moment," said stud manager James McWilliam, pictured with the stud's sale heifer, Kanimbla Nicky K17.
"It has really exploded in last couple of years as the focus, as a breed, has become more centred on commercial traits like fertility, carcase attributes, feet and milk."
The move towards a labelled Hereford product, with the launch of the Hereford Branded Beef Program, was a step in the right direction, he said.
"It may take time for the benefits to flow back to the stud farmgate but it's forward movement for the breed," he said.
"The challenge now is that we need to look at the breed as one - a Whiteface breed - not Poll and Hereford."
