JUNIOR exhibits took the judge's eye at the 15th Red Angus National Show and Sale, Dubbo, last Wednesday June 25, with both male and female youngsters winning the grand championship sashes.
It was a continuation of success for the 21 month-old Wollumbi Hi Star H53 (ET) (AI) with judge, Christie Kennedy of Pine Creek and Black Diamond Angus studs, Bylong, saying the bull was the "complete package".
Hi Star H53 repeated his Sydney Royal Show broadribbon ascent from junior to grand champion, competing against 26 head at Dubbo.
The son of Red BVR Rab-Star 56C weighed 990kg and an eye muscle area (EMA) of 129 square centimetres plus a scrotal circumference of 42cm.
Hi Star was bred and exhibited by Peter Weiss and David Croker of Wollumbi stud, Marulan, who within the past three-and-a-half-years built up a Red Angus stud herd of 100 breeders, calving 70 embryos per year and backed-up by 150 Red Angus commercial breeders.
The Marulan ET bred Hi Star H53 was also a member of the winning Hordern Trophy interbreed pair at Sydney this year.
Senior champion bull award went to the Yeoval district bred Pine Villa Real Deal (AI) H98, a 22 month-old son of Red Ter-Ron Real Deal 01W, also weighing 990kg but with an EMA of 131cm2 and a 41cm scrotal circumference.
This bull was bred and exhibited by John Haycock and family's Pine Villa stud, and was out of Kansas Red Lucille W121.
Mrs Kennedy said he was the heaviest bull in his class with the biggest EMA and she would like to take him home.
Mr Haycock said Real Deal stood fourth in the same class to the eventual grand champion at Sydney Royal.
Reserve junior champion ribbon was awarded to Goonoo Red Howe H16, a 20 month-old son of BST Tullatoola Fully Loaded E16, bred and exhibited by Graham Jordan and family, Goonoo stud, Tamworth.
Reserve senior bull was GK Red Hero 26 H4 (AI), weighing 1005kg and shown by Gavin and Kirrily Iseppi, GK stud, Dalby, Qld.
Victorian breeder, Aimee Bolton of Bolton Girls stud, Mooroopna, was the associate judge.
In the female judging, 10 head was judged in three classes, with the junior and eventual grand champion coming from the youngest class.
This was the 14 month-old Heart- land Fat Una (AI), shown by Peter and Trina Redgwell of Heartland stud, Tamworth.
Fat Una impressed the judge with her femininity and breeding potential.
The heifer was sired by Red Northline Fat Tony 605U and from BST Tullatoola Una C24 and weighed 440 kilograms on the day.
Reserve junior female ribbon went to Round-Em Up Jasmine, a 15 month-old progeny of BST Tulla- toola EBV E140 and from Round-Em Up Dina G001, shown by David Hobbs and family, Round-Em Up stud, Molong.
With a bull calf at foot, BST Tullatoola Winsome G52 (AI) took out the senior championship for Bruno and Marie Schmid, BST Tullatoola stud, Molong.
The rising 36 month-old was sired by Red Si Mile Sakic 832S and from BST Tullatoola Winsome A131, still producing calves at 15 years of age.
Reserve senior award went to Goondoola RD Sasha H01 (AI), 22 months and also sired by Red Six Mile Sakic, but from BST Tullatoola Robin's Doll C104 and shown by the Powe family's Goondoola stud, Cargo.
