FIRST time entrants in the Beef Spectacular Feedback Trial James and Sally Morse, "Wongalee", Molong, have won both the reserve and grand champion awards for 2015.
Entering the Teys Jindalee feedlot in September, 95 teams of five steers were fed for 100 days and judged on feedlot entry, feedlot performance and carcase traits.
The Morses won the grand champion pen of five steers with a pen of Black Simmental Angus cross.
The champion team recorded 821 points out of 1000, placing first in both the feedlot entry and feedlot performance, and achieved a team profit $624.69 above the trial average.
A second team of steers entered by the Morses, of the same breeding, was the reserve champion pen of five on 795.5 points, with a team profit of $404.06 above average.
The reserve champion team was also awarded full points for feedlot entry, and sixth place in the carcase judging.
A third team, Black Simmental cross Angus, entered by the Morses was placed ninth overall.
In another first, a team of Speckle Park cross steers achieved a round of accolades, including third place overall.
Entered by Dennis Power, Minnamurra Pastoral Company, Boggabri, the Speckle Park Angus cross steers recorded a score of 788 points, with team profit of $773.44 above average, and were ranked in first place for carcase judging.
Two more teams from Minnamurra, both Speckle Park Angus cross, were ranked second and third in carcase judging, while a fourth team was placed third in feedlot performance.
Announced at a presentation dinner held in Wagga Wagga on Friday, those who entered the trial gathered to receive the extensive feedback on each of the animals and teams involved.
