SELLING a bull for $28,000 was fitting reward for Sprys Shorthorns at their golden anniversary sale.
Gerald and Lynden Spry celebrated 50 years in the Shorthorn breeding business yesterday at their annual autumn sale on their Wagga Wagga property "Ardlui", where bidding rocketed to $28,000 for the first bull to go under the hammer.
Long-time clients of Spy's the Loane family, Dunroan Shorthorn stud, Devonport, Tasmania, were the successful purchasers of Sprys Double Barrel H155 (P) (ET) (AI).
There were 34 Shorthorn bulls sold for an average of $7500.
In the female offering a pregnant Angus recipient to sire Sprys Patent's Ace G38 sold at $10,000, while a pregnancy-tested-in-calf Angus recipient carrying a sexed female pregnancy sired by Yamburgan Tobermorey F90 and from Sprys Patent's Judith G53 (a full sister to Sprys Patents Ace G38 which Spry's sold for $46,000) sold at $11,500.
Shorthorn heifers calves sold to $9000.
