THE TOP price at the Yamburgan Shorthorn bull sale this week came all the way from South Australia.
The 19th annual Yamburgan sale topped at $28,000 yesterday afternoon.
The on property sale at "Wallah", Narrabri, sold 70 out of the 74 Shorthorn bulls on offer at an average at $6694.
The top price buyer of the day was Mike Newton from Miller, Whan and John Pty Ltd, Mount Gambier.
Mr Newton purchased the bull on behalf of Carlton Nitschke Drilling in South Australia because of its moderate birth weight and positive eye muscle area (EMA) and rump.
Repeat buyers Stuart and John Brownlie, "Deepwater", Westmar, were the volume buyers of the day, purchasing 10 bulls to top at $16,000 and average at $8850.
Mr Brownlie said the Yamburgan bulls were very firm, with good growth for age, that's meeting and exceeding their market demand.
The Brownlie's produce cattle for the 100 day grain fed market.
Vendor John Manchee said the sale was a great success.
