THORNLEIGH Hereford bulls sold to a top of $6500 at the Monie family's 38th annual sale at "North Torrakina", Little Plain, on Monday.
Drought had a major impact on the sale, with sixteen of 36 bulls offered by Ben and Annabelle Monie selling for a clearance of 44 per cent and average of $3750.
Repeat buyers Robert and Jill Reid, "Chudleigh", Howlong, near Albury, purchased the top-priced bull, Thornleigh Haddon, a son of Mawarra Vice Admiral and Thornleigh Katherine.
Weighing 868 kilograms, the 24-month-old bull had estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +34 for 200-day weight, +55 for 400-day weight and +82 for 600-day weight.
He had a scrotal circumference of 39 centimetres, scanned six millimetres and 9mm on the rump and rib respectively and had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 119 square centimetres.
The Reids also purchased the second top-priced bull, Thornleigh Hector, for $6000 and were the volume buyers, purchasing four bulls, including a heifer bull, for an average of $5125.
