JEREMY and Philippa Walsh, Ruby Park Limousins, Dubbo, were over the moon when their lightweight steer nicknamed Kenny romped home with the grand champion steer ribbon at the Sydney Royal Show on Thursday.
The beefy Limousin tipped the scales at 387 kilogram and recorded nine millimetres of fat when scanned on the rump and 5mm on the rib.
He also topped the steer auction at 1625 cents a kilogram and was bought by Tender Value Meats at Hornsby.
Middle weight champion was exhibited by the past multi-award winning St John's College, Dubbo, with a Limousin steer bred by the Kirk family from Wilworril Limousins at Rylstone.
He tipped the scales at 420kg with a rump/rib scan of 12mm/8mm.
In the heavyweight ring the Scots School at Bathurst teamed up with breeder Austin Steer, Eltham Limousins, Nevertire, to claim the champion ribbon.
The well muscled beast weighed in at 516kg and scanned 11mm and 8mm on the rump/rib.
In the school steer competition the King's School, Parramatta, snatched the trophy with a middle weight Limousin bred by Ben and Holly Goodman from Tamworth.
Nicknamed sizzler, he weighed 470kg and recorded and even 11mm and 12mm of rump and rib fat.
The trade steer and heifer competition will be judged on Saturday.
