HEAVY is the head that wears the crown but the junior bull Tycolah Monarch J135 wore the title of best exhibit of the Poll Hereford breed at Sydney Royal with ease.
Exhibited by Steve and Therese Crowley of Tycolah Poll Herefords at Barraba, Monarch had been selected by judge David Bondfield, Palgrove Charolais, Dalveen, Queensland, as the best exhibit over the senior and grand champion female Kanimbla Miss K H100, exhibited by Tondara stud, Urana.
Mr Bondfield said the bull had natural balance, optimum growth and maturity, was very mobile and was an animal that had really taken his eye.
"He won me over from the first time he walked into the ring."
The 862 kilogram bull had an eye muscle area of 125 square centimetres and measured 11mm on the rump and 9mm on the rib.
The bull's sire, Tycolah Jovial F77, won the Urquhart trophy at Sydney Royal in 2012.
Mr Crowley said he would be taking Monarch to the Dubbo National Show and Sale.
As for the female, Mr Bondfield said she was "picture perfect".
"This cow ticks every box; she's perfect in terms of maturity pattern - she is a very complete cow and I like her very much."
Exhibitor Tom Holt, Tondara, Urana said Kanimbla Miss K H100 had been a champion in Melbourne and would be heading to Beef Australia in Rockhampton.
