GROWERS from around Yerong Creek, Lockhart and Osborne in southern NSW attended a canola field day on July 30 hosted by Delta Agribusiness.
Local agronomists talked to farmers about virus issues in canola and how to handle them coming in to spring.
Department of Primary Industries plant pathologist Kurt Lindbeck updated growers on the triggers and symptoms of Sclerotinia in canola.
Wet conditions whick allow the lower crop canopy to remain wet are ideal for Sclerotinia stem rot.
"The time for putting the first [fungicide] spray on is looming," he said.
He said virus issues were part and parcel of a good season and early protection was critical but urged growers to assess each paddock individually.
The Lockhart region recorded 19.8mm of rain for July.
