AGRICULTURE students from the State's north-west are preparing for the University of New England's Growing Regional and Agricultural Students in Science (UNE GRASS) industry placement scholarship program, which begins in Armidale next week.
The annual program, aimed at showcasing the broad range of science based-careers supporting the primary industries, will see 50 students take part in a two-day event at the university on October 7 and 8.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with lecturers and postgraduate students during the camp, as well as visit industry and research sites to learn about current research projects.
Between 10 and 15 students will then be selected for five-day industry placements in the summer holidays, where students will work as a scientist in the area of work of their choosing.
The experience will allow students to work with a research scientist or leading industry in the primary industry sector, aiding in current research work or the business workings of their mentors.
Each student will present their scholarship experience at the UNE GRASS reporting session on February 6 next year, and will be presented with a scholarship worth $300.
