MODULE tarps donated by NSW and Queensland cotton growers have been put to good use in Vanuatu, sheltering survivors of Cyclone Pam which devastated the island nation earlier this year.
Cotton Australia Regional Manager for the Darling Downs, Mary O'Brien, put the call out for help in mid-March, prompting the donation of more than 1600 tarps in a fortnight.
Tarps were donated from the Darling Downs, St George, Dirranbandi, the Macintyre Valley, the Upper Namoi region and the Macquarie Valley.
They were shipped from Brisbane and delivered to Vanuatu's survivors by Australian aid agencies and charitable organisations, including Act for Peace.
"To see the people of Vanuatu embracing the donated tarps, alongside a host of other essential items generously donated by Australians, has been a heartening experience for our industry," Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay said.
