COUNTRY drivers with five post bullbars have a minimum standard set for the illegal car armour that will apply during the two-year moratorium issued in August.
Following a campaign in The Land, Roads Minister Duncan Gay has announced tolerances for bullbars deemed illegal post 2003.
The tolerances include:
- Allowing for a tilt of 75 millimetres or nine degrees between the front face of the topmost horizontal member or bar and the most forward point of the bullbar’s supporting member or bar.
- The horizontal bar in the centre of the bullbar must not exceed 100mm high relative to the adjoining right and left horizontal bars (i.e. the horizontal bar in the middle of the bull bar can’t be excessively high).
- Allowing the vehicle front protection system and attachments to extend beyond the original width of the vehicle providing it does not extend beyond the standard mirrors on either side and the overall width of the vehicle and attachments do not exceed 2.5m.
