STRONG support from cattle buyers at the prime sale at Tamworth on Monday resulted in a steer being sold twice to raise $2000 for Bears of Hope.
Bidding for the 200kg steer, donated by an anonymous Tamworth vendor, reached $6 per kilogram, with Livestock Link the successful buyer.
It was promptly re-offered for sale, with bidding getting back up to $4/kg, and John Matheson was highest bidder the second time around.
All this furious bidding was for a very worthy cause, with all proceeds going to Bears of Hope, an organisation that gives comfort – and memorial teddy bears – to families in memory of their lost little ones.
Kootingal's Dan Greenwood and wife Kimberley lost their second child, Imogen, 34 weeks into the pregnancy.
Together with his mates from the Kootingal Roosters, Dan started a campaign called Beards of Hope, where most of the players let their facial hair grow for the cause.
With the $2000 raised at yesterday’s sale, Dan will have the pleasure of handing over roughly $6000 to the organisation that helped him and his wife through the hardest time of their lives.
