Anti-coal protests in the State’s north west continue, with police arresting a man and a woman in Leards State Forest on Thursday September 18.
Leards Forest has seen numerous protests in recent months . Idemtisu operates the Boggabri coal mine in the forest and Whitehaven is constructing Maules Creek coal mine.
The protesters allegedly locked themselves to a metal drum partially filled with cement, blocking road access at the intersection of Northern Loop road and Leard Forest road at Boggabri.
Police attended the scene at about 8am to arrest the pair, who refused to unlock themselves when requested.
The protesters were released at 5.30pm, when the Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit attended the scene.
They were arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station. And each charged with pedestrian obstruct traffic and disobey police direction.
They were granted bail to appear at Narrabri Local Court on 28 October 2014.
