LONG-serving Nationals State MP Don Page will retire from public life at the end of this parliamentary term.
The Member for Ballina, Mr Page has represented the North Coast electorate for the past 26 years.
Up until yesterday, he was also the Minister for Local Government.
Mr Page said he advised Nationals Leader Andrew Stoner of his intention to retire next March so it could be taken into consideration during selection of the ministerial team.
"I leave the portfolio knowing we have laid the foundations for a stronger and revitalised local government sector capable of delivering better outcomes for the people of NSW," he said.
"I’d like to thank all those who have assisted me in putting in place our Local Government reforms for the future.
"I’d also like to thank my many parliamentary colleagues who have helped me along the way.
"I have particularly appreciated being a member of the Nationals Parliamentary team and I look forward to continuing to make a contribution.
"Not many people have the opportunity to serve as an MP and a Minister.
"I’ve been fortunate to do both, and to continue for the fifth generation the Page tradition of public service."
