WILD weather overnight drenched the North Coast, with rainfall figures in excess of 150mm since this time yesterday recorded at many locations.
State Emergency Services workers received hundreds of calls - the majority around Ballina where rain was heaviest - and five rescues were carried out overnight.
A minor flood alert for the Wilsons River at Lismore is still in place, with the river expected to peak around midday.
Numerous country roads have been blocked by water and power has been cut in a handful of areas.
Forecast severe winds did not eventuate, which authorities said was a blessing and significantly reduced the damage load.
Farmers in the western parts of the region are thrilled with what many are describing as the best start to spring in years.
Rain in the past fortnight has added up to well over 100mm in areas like Kyogle, Casino, Nymboida and west of Coffs Harbour.
Already, the cattle market in the region has lifted on the rain.
Grafton stock agent David Farrell said last weekend's rain fell heaviest in areas to the west of his district, where older farmers said it had been the driest they’d ever seen.
Weaners lifted up to $100 a head at Grafton’s special store sale last Thursday and Tuesday's fat market saw cows sell to 170c/kg, which was 40c/kg dearer than three weeks ago.
Mr Farrell said the fat market had been gradually rising over past month on the back of dwindling supply but jumped significantly on the back of the rain.
For dairy farms, the rain will mean additional ryegrass and clover grazings and water in systems for irrigation should spring be dry.
