SHADE and water will be improved at the Ashford Showground to improve conditions for both livestock and volunteers.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall visited the showground on Monday to inspect the facilities and announce a $12,112 grant from the NSW government.
Ashford Showground Trust chairman David Thompson welcomed the funding support and said the shade sails and water troughs were essential improvements to the showground.

“We have a duty of care to the livestock that come through the holding yards to reduce their stress and also make it more comfortable for the volunteers handling them,” Mr Thompson said.
“We’ve been wanting to undertake this work for some time but have always struggled with funds, so we’re really happy to receive this money – it’ll be very well spent.

“The Ashford Show is held in February each year, when conditions can be very hot, so it’s a good move by the Showground Trust to provide this cover and extra water for the yards,” Mr Marshall said.
