A COUPLE from Victoria have been killed in a light aircraft crash near Mudgee Airport on Sunday.
NSW police are investigating the crash which occurred about 11am after the plane crashed into a paddock near Henry Lawson Drive while on approach for landing.
Bev and Terry Fisher, both in their 60s and from Pakenham, were heading north to Mudgee.
The pilots of another three planes travelling with the couple landed safely.
"This is tragic. Not only are the people they were travelling with... devastated, but it impacts on a lot of, lot of people," Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside said.
A crime scene has been established at the airport and will be examined by specialist forensic officers with police assisting investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).
A report will also be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
