FOR THE first time in three years, the Nowendoc campdraft was on over the weekend, attracting more than 800 runs.
Dry conditions drove the community to cancel the event for the past three years, but this year they were able to source 1200 head of cattle for the event.
Campdraft committee member Nola Nicholson, "Ronola", Nowendoc, said getting cattle for the draft was difficult but several local producers pitching in allowed the event to go ahead.
Peter Turner, "Coopladurripa", Nowendoc, donated a significant amount of cattle for the event, as did Joe Pedderick, Arnold Ham and Jim Southeren from Niangla.
Mrs Nicholson, who donated 200 weaners for the event herself, said a lot of the cattle weren't fat, but they were in good store condition.
"Some were really good, they were lucky enough to have been on feed," she said.
"They were in good condition, definitely fit enough to run."
The two day event brought in 150 competitors for the open draft, 252 for the novice, 245 for the maiden and 215 for the ladies draft.
There were also around 50 junior and juvenille competitors, taking the total runs over the weekend to 895, not including the finals.
With donations and help from local groups such as the Assent group in Armidale, the Nowendoc campdraft committee were able to host a successful weekend.
