NSW Nationals MP Adam Marshall pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving at Glen Innes Local Court today.
Mr Marshall, who described himself as a "bloody idiot", was caught behind the wheel in Glen Innes on June 27.
His licence has been suspended for nine months and he was fined $2000.
"I accept the decision of the court," the 29-year-old MP said.
"I reiterate that I made a huge mistake and deeply regret my actions.
"I drank and drove and was a bloody idiot.
"I would again like to sincerely apologise to the community, my friends and family for my actions."
Mr Marshall said he hoped it was a clear message to others that if they drink and drive, they will get caught and suffer the consequences.
"I now intend to use my position as an MP to help educate others, particularly young people, about the dangers associated with drink driving and that it’s simply not acceptable," he said.
Mr Marshall claimed his seat at a 2013 by-election sparked by the resignation of Richard Torbay, who held the Northern Tablelands as an independent for 14 years.
"I want to make it clear that I will continue to work as hard as ever for the people of Northern Tablelands and carry on my work advancing our issues and needs."
