EVERYBODY on the land knows a bad season always comes sooner or later, and the Central West Lachlan Landcare group is determined to make sure farmers are prepared for the next one.
The bluntly titled preparing for the next s$@t season workshop will cover a range of topics from soil management to financial advice and mental health, and will be held in Forbes on October 10.
"We’re not saying that it is coming but it is never too early to start preparing for next one because reality of life of the land is that there is always one around the corner – a s#@t season," said project officer Christie Elemam.
"Land managers are always busy with rarely a moment’s break but there are some key things that they should be attending to now to prepare for a potential bad season.
"This workshop brings a range of speakers to highlight those practical things that land managers can get on top of now whilst also demonstrating the great strength and diversity of support available to land managers locally," Ms Elemam said.
Speakers at the workshop will include Robbie Leonard from the Bureau of Meteorology providing a long term forecast for the Central West area; Nick Hill from Central West Farming Systems on the management of soil acidity for profitability; Mike Fatturo from Mid Lachlan Rural Fire Service about getting ready for the coming fire season; HE Silos discussing silo storage and management and Rob Muffett the Forbes rural financial counsellor on what to be looking for in your finances.
The workshop is a collaborative effort of the Condobolin, Weddin and Central West Lachlan Landcare groups with funding and support from the Central West Local Land Services.
Transport is available from both Grenfell and Condobolin residents by contacting their local Landcare support officers Hannah Troth at Weddin on (02) 6347 5353 and Kate Kirk at Condobolin on (02) 6895 1108.
