THE show societies of Young and Bingara will receive new kitchens for their showgrounds, courtesy of a grant from the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS).
The kitchens (donated by Masters Home Improvement) were used at the Sydney Royal Easter Show for cooking demonstrations in the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome.
Each kitchen includes all of the cabinetry, cook tops, sink and oven, as well as a smaller kitchen, suitable for use indoors or outside undercover.
The Young Show and Bingara Show Societies were chosen from a pile of 90 applications.
RAS Foundation executive officer Kate Ross said they were worthy recipients.
“The Young Showground recently had a pavilion destroyed by arson, and in the fire they lost the kitchen they had fundraised for many years to put in. The community was devastated by the loss of this important community asset,” Ms Ross Said.
“Similarly, the Bingara community has also faced recent hardships, enduring one of the worst droughts in more than 50 years. (The show society) was operating with 50 year-old facilities which were considerably outdated and unable to meet the standards or needs of the community.”
She said the kitchens would make a huge difference to both regional communities.
“It will breathe new life into their important showground facilities, ensuring they can be used as multipurpose buildings year round by a number of sporting and community organisations."
