ALLEGED murderer Ian Robert Turnbull's family has been formally refused bail in the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney today.
The family of the 79-year-old made an emotional plea to Acting Justice Anthony Blackmore.
Turnbull's wife Robeena described the state her husband was in after allegedly shooting OEH compliance officer Glen Turner at Croppa Creek near Moree in July, and also spoke of his health issues.
Mrs Turnbull said her husband didn't shower or change his clothes, and simply sat in a chair for more than four hours, waiting for the police to arrive after the alleged shooting.
"His face was blank... he was somewhere else," she told the court.
"He said to me 'I just cracked. I didn't mean to shoot him'."
Turnbull's lawyer also told the court one of the sons of the accused, Grant Turnbull, had offered $1 million as security for his father to be allowed bail.
Following Mrs Turnbull's evidence, Mr Blackmore adjourned the bail application for 45 minutes for him to read through documents supplied by the defence.
However, Mr Blackmore said Turnbull "shows little remorse" and
"presents an ongoing risk to other OEH officers".
He "appears to have deliberately executed the environment officer", Mr Blackmore said.
Mr Turnbull was "a man prepared to publicly execute a public official", he said.
