Wellington's 140th Show will host the Central West Yard Dog Championship on Saturday, May 9.
Local yard dog trialler Tim Wood the show's section chief steward is pretty chuffed with the honour and has organised two full days of yard dog entertainment this year.
"We have gathered some $5000 in prize money, trophies and product for the event which kicks off on Friday, May 8, with encourage, maiden and novice classes," he said.
The big day attracting improver and open dogs for Central West championship honours will commence from 7.30am on Saturday, May 9.
"Holding the regional championship really makes Wellingotn a premier show in yard dog circles," Mr Woods said.
"If we show we can conduct an excellent regional event then my aim is to nominate this show to stage the state titles sometime in the future."
He said the championship trial is NSW Yard Dog Association (NSWYDA) affiliated and conducted under association's rules.
During the lunch break a local section for any worker within a 50 kilometre radius of Wellington can enter and does not have to be a NSWYDA member.
"I'm hoping local farmers who have dogs may bring their dog along and try it out at lunchtime," Mr Woods said.
"It's really just for a bit of fun and may encourage a few to get more involved in the yard dog sport."
Saturday's reserved for improver and open dogs which can vie for the regional championship.
"We have already attracted quite a few top dogs and a couple of state title workers while the two judges are top class workers as well," Mr Woods said.
"One is a past Australian winner and the other has won the NSW titles at least four times."
Yard dog trials bring the action closer to spectators.
Mr Woods said there was a "bit more action" with the dog backing the sheep and loading a trailer "and things like that".
