THE entries for our Best Mates Photographic Competition have picked up the pace in the past week, with many people keen to share their photos of animal "besties" with our readers, and the chance to win one of two Canon PowerShot G1XII still cameras, valued at $999 each.

Our two finalists this week are: Hannah Mitchell, Glenreagh, for her photo of herself and her best mate, Molly, a Fox Terrier cross, and Richard Burgun, Temora, for his photo of his daughter Jada, 6, with Boots and Andy.
We'll feature another page of entries next week.
To be in the running, all readers need to do is us send a high resolution (minimum 1MB) photo of themselves - or a family member - with their best four-legged/furry/winged mate.
We'd also like readers to include some details about their special mate.
More Best Mates photos here too.
The Land will publish weekly spreads of readers' entries through to January 8 and The Land's senior photographer Michael Petey will select two finalists each week, and at the end of the competition all the finalists will be reprinted in The Land and readers can vote for their favourite entry, while Michael will select a second winner.
We'll have a packages of merchandise from The Land for a lucky draw among readers who vote.
Entries can be either emailed to: bestmates@theland.com.au, or posted to: The Land's Best Mates Photographic Competition, PO Box 999, North Richmond, NSW 2754.
