AT the 10th annual Normanhurst Border Leicester on-property sale at Boorowa today a loyal following of buyers and supporters came together to help celebrate the Corkhill family’s 50th anniversary breeding and showing Border Leicesters.
Out of an offering of 80 rams, including 15 specially selected rams, 60 sold to a solid average of $1070 and high of $4000.
The successful buyer of the top priced ram was new client Norman Cram, Coobanunga Pastoral Company, Goulburn, who purchased Normanhurst Shepherd 33/13, a stud sire that ordinarily would be retained by the stud, but was sold as part of the 50 year celebrations.
Normanhurst Shepherd 33/13 has been a standout for the Corkhill family during their 2014 show season including being sashed as the junior champion ram, reserve grand champion ram and the best headed ram at the Sydney Royal Border Leicester feature show.
Sired by Cadell 660/07, he weighed 125 kilograms, had an eye muscle depth (EMD) of 40 millimetres and post weaning weight of +6.9kg.
Mr Cram, who purchased a second ram for $1700, said he plans to start a stud of his own and wanted to buy from Normanhurst because of their reputation and said it “was always best to start at the top.”
Volume buyer was the Connell family of “Dowan Hill”, Yass, who secured 10 rams to a top of $1700 and $1370 average.
Normanhurst co-principal, Tom Corkhill, said he felt it was a good result and was happy with the way the stud rams sold.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark with Steve Ridley, Elders Goulburn and Rick Power, Landmark Boorowa, sharing the auctioneering duties.
A full sale report will appear in the October 9 edition of The Land.
