THERE was strong interest by local, repeat and new buyers in the 150 Merino and Poll Merino rams offered by Bogo Merinos at their annual on-property sale.
One-hundred and forty-six rams were sold for an average price of $1554.79, up $300 on last year.
The top price at $4800 was paid by Craig Wilson, Craig Wilson Livestock, Wagga Wagga, on behalf of his client Sean Beasley “Emu Park” Sale, Victoria.
Mr Beasley is a first time client of Bogo Merinos and Mr Wilson, who is the genetic advisor to Mr Beasley selected the young sire for his excellent figures of 18.5 micron, with a Comfort Factor of 99.6 and body weight 5.2 percent above the average.
Other Victorian interests who purchased rams included SJ & GJ Eats “Keele Park” Bulart whose draft of five rams topped at $2000 to average $1800: TA and LM Bennett “Hillsview” Everton Upper who selected a ram with 18.1 micron, Comfort Factor of 99.7 and body weight 4.3 percent above the average for $1800 and Russell Bennett, also from Everton Upper paid $2800 for his choice of future sire with micron 18.3 and Comfort Factor of 99.8.
Volume buyers included John and Anna Hyles “Booroomba” Tharwa whose draft of 15 rams averaged $1493 to top of $2000, and Dave Hewlett “Blackburn” Yass has been buying rams from Bogo for the past 19 years and this year purchased 10 rams to average price $1820.
Wal and Lorraine Archer “The Pines” Tangmangaroo also returned to purchase another draft of young sires and took home nine rams at average price of $933.
Other purchasers included David Sykes from Binalong whose selection of 6 rams averaged $1533: Bruce Hazell “Kia Ora” Bookham whose draft of four rams averaged $1900 and the McLennan family “Connen Hill”, Goulburn, who continued their association with Bogo-bred rams by taking home five rams at the average price of $2040.
Purchasers from further afield included RJ Parkman and Co “Orizba” Young with a selection of nine rams to average $933; SG & EC Cook “Goongirwarrie”, Carcoar, who selected three rams to average $1333, and Maurice Webb “Meryvale” Young who took home 11 rams to top of $2040 and average of $1818.
Cavan Station general manager Matt Crozier was happy with the result.
“We are excited about the future of the Bogo stud now that is has been re-located to 'Ravenswood' and under the ownership of 'Cavan Station'", Mr Crozier said.
Bogo stud manager Mal Peake concurred and added he was happy with the response of clients to the genetic direction the stud was taking.
The sale was conducted through the agency of Butt Livestock & Property, Yass with Andrew Wishart, Landmark Stud Stock Specialist taking the bids.
