GLEN Innes Hereford Bull sale hit a new sale record of $30,000 today, marking its 70th anniversary.
Eighteen studs from NSW and Queensland filled the draft and sold 53 of the 84 Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls offered, averaging $4915.
Four heifers were also offered, with all selling for $2000.
South Australian stud producer Christine Comley, Ardno Herefords, paid a record $30,000 sale high for lot 26, Cara Park Unique J324, presented for sale by Graeme Newnham, Cara Park, Delungra.
The 25-month old Mawarra Unique C041 son, tipped the scales at 1035 kilograms and scanned a P8 of 15mm, a rib of 8mm and eye muscle area (EMA) of 140 square centimetres, a scrotal of 38.5cm and an average daily weight gain of 1.38 kg.
Adrian Spencer, Ironbark Herefords, Barraba paid $14,500 for lot 4, Battalion First Class presented by Grant Kneipp, Battalion Herefords, Dundee.
The Glendon Park Frontline F119 son weighed in at 958kg and scanned a P8 of 16mm, a rib of 9mm and EMA of 124sqcm at 25-months of age.
Grand Champion Bull, Foxforth Jarvis, presented by Fred and Anne Starr, Foxforth Herefords, Guyra, sold for $7000 to Tony and Barbara Holliss, Lotus Herefords, Pinkett.
Repeat buyer James Simpson, "Guneena", Inverell, was the volume buyer of the day, purchasing four bulls to top at $5500 and average $4125.
Mr Simpson purchased two bulls each from Bahreenah Poll Herefords, Tingha, and Lindendale Poll Herefords, Tamworth.
To send cattle to the feedlot, Mr Simpson looks for bulls with good growth, above average eye muscle area figures and good muscle coverage which he said the
bulls he purchased had.
The sale was settled by Elders Glen Innes with Andrew Meara, Chris Johnstone and Brian Kennedy controlling the bids.
