A COMPLETE clearance of all 168 lots averaging $1273 was a fitting finish to 48 years of breeding for Bob Nader at last week’s Bahloo Poll Hereford dispersal sale, held on-property near Yass.
Lot one, a cow and bull calf duo, Bahloo C142 Symphony, attracted strong competition from several bidders before being knocked down for the sale’s top price of $5750 to Jemma Welsh Robertson and Tim Reid, JWR Poll Hereford stud, Goulburn.
By Guildford Chancellor C142 and dam Bahloo U306 Symphony B16, the three-year-old cow had a one-month-old bull calf at foot by Bahloo W94 Bullseye E16.
Ms Welsh Robertson and Mr Reid also purchased a yearling heifer, Bahloo E51 Pearl J89, at $1100.
Ross Robertson, Jemma’s father and Wynella stud principal, was bidding for Ms Welsh Robertson on the day.
“Jemma started her own stud about eight years ago,” he said.
“She is bringing in some new genetics, looking to the future.
“The cow was a standout and the bull calf at foot I believe was also hard to go past.”
The 27 cows with calves at foot were the most sought after selling to $5750 and averaging $2024.
Tummel Herefords, Lochaber, Walcha, bought five cows with calves at foot to a top of $3100 twice and a $2340 average.
The top price pregnancy-tested-in-calf (PTIC) cow was sold to John Alcock through Elders Cooma, for $2000.
Forty-five cows, all PTIC to calve in early September, sold to an average of $1075.
The top-priced bull Bahloo E51 Hermes H37 was two years old, by Bahloo A37 Spartacus E51, and was purchased by Deloraine Rural, Beveridge, South Australia, at $3700.
Thirty-one bulls sold to $3700, averaging $1632, while all 65 heifers sold to $3500 and a $967 average.
Minlacowie Poll Herefords, Minlaton, South Australia, paid $3500 for the top heifer, two-year-old Bahloo E51 Symphony H31 (P), by Bahloo A67 Spartacus E51.
The stud took home four females all together averaging $1900.
Volume buyers on the day included prominent stud, Kanimbla Poll Herefords, Holbrook, who purchased 10 female lots to a top of $1700 twice for a cow and calf and a $1075 average.
RL and TR Eccles, Bookham, secured 12 lots to a $1216 average.
Their top purchase of $3000 was for a two-year-old bull, Bahloo E51 Achilles H28.
Their total breakdown was five bulls, six heifers (consisting of yearlings and two-year-olds) and one cow with a calf at foot.
Bahloo Poll Herefords principal Bob Nader said he was relieved all lots had sold at auction.
Elders conducted the sale, with Steve Ridley on the rostrum.
