- Flock Dohne ewes June/July 2013 drop February shorn and not joined sold to $192
- Stud Dohne ewes June/July 2012 drop, full wool and not joined sold to $145
THERE was standing room only around the pens of Dohne sheep offered on account Brian and Vicki Hewitt, Pineside Dohne stud, Ariah Park.
A complete clearance of the 504 stud ewes, 904 flock ewes, stud and flock weaners and rams represented the absolute dispersal of the Pineside operation ending 11 years of the Hewitt family producing high-quality Dohne sheep.
Significant purchasers were made by breeders keen to take advantage of the sale of these outstanding sheep.
Michael Agnew, “Amakanda”, Burrinjuck via Yass, selected the pens of older stud ewes to stock his new property paying to $112 for the 52 Ulooloo-bred ewes 2010 drop, full wool and not station mated.
Mr Agnew bought a total of 206 stud ewes, the 60 ram weaners and the 110 mixed-sex weaners penned plus a draft of rams for $200.
“I get better value from the Dohne wool than the First Cross ewes, and you still get a good frame,” Mr Agnew said.
He had recently purchased Pineside-blood ewes at another sale near Temora, and he was impressed by the quality of the sheep.
The Dohne ewes will be joined either Dohne or Border Leicester rams with the local trade as the target market.
Col Harper “Taravale” Ariah Park purchased the pen of 230 ewe lambs, June/July 2014 drop and unshorn for $112.
He also purchased 236 maiden ewes June/July 2012 drop, February shorn and not station mated for $154.
Mr Harper has purchased the “Pineside” property, and the ewes bought will form the base of his new enterprise.
The sale was facilitated by Ray White Livestock, Temora with Craig Pellow and Ryan Burden taking the bids.
