First cross ewes topped at $240 a head while Merinos sold to $150 during today’s special store sheep sale at Narromine.
A large crowd from central tablelands, western regions and Tamworth attended with buyers prepared to dig deeper into their pockets for most of the drafts in the 11,000 head yarding.
Top and second top prices were gained in two drafts bred and offered by the Yeo family, “Burrgoen”, Mendooran, when their first draft of 223 March to April 2014 drop ewes made $240 when knocked down to Bruce Noble, “Karingah”, Eugowra.
The next draft of the two-way split were also 223 selling at $236 to Peter Anderson, “Glenelg”, Wellington.
Top Merino pen at $150 a head were a line of Wallaloo Park blood Merino ewes, August 2013 drop, bred and offered by Keith and Clare Mudford, “Irimbia”, Gilgandra, and purchased by repeat buyer Allan Walker, “Erlside”, Warren.
Selling auctioneer of all three lots, Ti8m Wiggins of Christie and Hood, Narromine said the ale was very strong for the first cross ewes and was following the dearer trend of late, however, he felt the Merino market, was “lacking somewhat” considering the quality lines that were offered.
