A TASMANIAN duo from Valma stud, Whitemore, found new homes in the New England and Queensland when sold at the 53rd Herefords Australia National Show and Sale at Dubbo last week.
Operated by the McLaughlan family, Valma stud has been an exbibitor at the Dubbo event and vendor for decades and this year was represented by two bulls with Valma Hailstone (P), making $21,000 when bought in partnership by Chris Lisle, Tummel stud, Walcha, and Greg James, Lind- endale stud, Garoo, near Tamworth.
The other, Valma High Power (P), sold at $8000 to the Dobson family's Wararba Park stud, Meandarra, Queensland.
Representing Valma stud this year was Andrew McLaughlan who has been attending the fixture for the past 10 years.
Mr McLaughlan said Hailstone, a son of homebred Valma Forster (AI) (P), won the youngest class of the event and was nearly 19 months old and weighed 810 kilograms.
The Lisle family has been breeding Tummel Herefords for generations at "Lochaber", and Hailstone will be joined to some of the stud's old Poll Hereford cows, "to see how he fits", Chris Lisle said.
"This bull has plenty of growth for a young bull with quality and outlook," he said.
Greg James has been breeding Poll Herefords for 50 years and runs a 100 head stud herd as well as a commercial herd.
He said Hailstone was a "beautifully long bull for his age, full of quality".
