NORMANHURST Border Leicester stud achieved a total clearance for the first time at their annual on-property ram sale at Boorowa on Thursday.
80 rams were sold, including 15 specially selected rams, to an average of $1232 and a high of $2600.
The buyer of the top priced ram was Peter and Jane Lette, Jacaromo Borders, Berridale via Cooma, through Landmark Boorowa.
The ram was a twin, had a post weaning weight of +7.6 kilograms, and a post weaning eye muscle depth of 0.5mm.
He was sired by NH249/11.
The ram was a standout for the Corkhill family during this year’s show season, taking second place in the pairs competition at the Canberra Royal Show and third in the pairs competition at Sydney Royal Show.
Volume buyers were John Kelly and sons Robert and Patrick, “Nilgari”, Boorowa, and Ian Webster, “Chatsworth”, Binda, each taking home 10 rams.
Normanhurst Border Leicester co-principal Tom Corkhill described the result as “fantastic”.
“We’re very happy to see a total clearance and our average is up significantly from last year,” Mr Corkhill said.
Last year, the Corkhills cleared 60 of 80 rams on offer for an average of $1070, topping at $4000.
“There were plenty of new faces and the competition was strong.”
Landmark Boorowa agent Rick Power said some bidders were surprised by the competition they faced at the sale.
“I think many of the bidders were expecting the rams in the second half of the sale to drop down, but they didn’t. They had to reassess their budgets and get inline,” Mr Power said.
Mr Power jointly conducted the sale with Steve Ridley, Elders Goulburn, and Dermot McGrath, Elders Boorowa.
