An alpine lifestyle retreat

The Eurobin property, situated about 15 kilometres from Bright, comprises over 6ha (16ac) of land upon which the current owners, Peter and Jenny Rogers, have run alpacas but also upon which they had built a modern house.

Selling agent Gerard Gray, of Dickens Real Estate, Bright, Victoria, said when the Rogers were originally looking for a property in the district they had hoped to find a vacant block.

They found this parcel of land in 2005, which had an older brick home, but which was demolished after and a new home was built, completed in 2010.

Mr Gray said the owners wanted a lot of glass used in the house, aiming for an industrial feel, but also with an alpine atmosphere as well, given the surroundings.

"They have encapsulated this well (in the house) and the fittings and fixtures are top notch," Mr Gray said.

"The finished result is beautiful."

The home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a double-sided slow combustion fireplace which divides the lounge and dining areas, a combination of solar and mains power and recycled timber doors.

The property once formed part of a much larger landholding which was once a tobacco farm.

Structures in the property include the machinery shed, which also features the old tobacco kilns, and cool rooms that had in the past been used to store chestnuts on the property.

Mr Gray said the property had been attracting some local interest, as well as from buyers in Melbourne.

"It's the ideal block to still have a bit of space, and may be suited for a farmer retiring and coming off the land," he said.

He said the property offered the essence of rural lifestyle, while still offering close access to local towns.

The property also features a vegetable gardens, several fruit and nut trees including citrus, peas and walnuts, and four rainwater tanks offering a total capacity of 110,000 litres.

The property is listed for sale with Dickens Real Estate for $1.25 million.
