ONE of the Central West's most historic properties with views over Bathurst, "Cangoura", located on Eleven Mile Drive has been put on the market.
Clouded in history, the 637 hectare (1570 acre) property was built by the Suttor family in 1876 and has since been restored to its former glory by the Ward family.
Selling agent, Michael Lund, Master Stephens, Bathurst, said "Cangoura's" homestead is breathtaking.
"Upon entry you are given a hint of the quality finishings that exist through the entire building," Mr Lund said.
"With six bedrooms, five bathrooms, three living areas, office and billiard room, the homestead boasts Australian cedar doors and staircases, fireplaces, Baltic pine floors, original staircases and balcony areas that capture some of the property's commanding views."
Mr Lund said there was also an eight car garage and four car carport attached to the house.
"With so many original features on display the homestead and grounds would have to be one of the best presented privately owned homes in country NSW," he said.
Separate from the house, "Cangoura" is said to offer a three bedroom manager's cottage, four bores (two equip-ped), two sets of cattle yards, a three stand shearing shed, a five bay machinery shed, hay shed and a deer hide.
"The property was previously a commercial deer farm and all the fencing on the property is set up for that," he said.
"The 637 ha (1570ac) have already been approved for a three lot subdivision of 202 ha (500 acre) parts."
He said the Ward family bought the property, located five kilometres outside Bathurst, over 12 years ago, restored it and are now selling as it's no longer necessary for their needs.
"For private sale at $4.65 million, "Cangoura", appeals to graziers, farmers and historians alike," he said.
"The house alone is good to relax in, the country is just a bonus.
"It is a very private setting."
Located 10 minutes from the airport, Mr Lund said the property is based on granite soil and offered a mix of native timbers.
"There are 31 paddocks on "Cangoura" and all vary is size, not to mention the four bores and trough system the property holds as well."
