TO COMMEMORATE 100 years since Anzac forces landed at Gallipoli, Fairfax Media has commissioned Canberra graphic artist Jim Kaucz to depict Australia's involvement in the First World War.
The grand but intricate illustration reflects the war through Australian eyes, from the shores of Gallipoli to other battles and the faces and places now etched into history.
Anzac 100: Australia and the Great War is available now to buy as a limited edition print, with $25 from each sale going to veterans support charity Soldier On.
Blending heavily stylised pen and ink graphic elements, the illustration takes viewers on a detailed visual journey from the tranquillity of suburban life at home to a world laid waste.
"The graphic seeks to encapsulate the totality of the conflict in its key dimensions," Mr Kaucz said.
"It seeks to represent the key players and the major theatres of war on the ground, at sea and in the air."
The human perspective is front and centre with dozens of individual portraits including Turkish and Australian soldiers and leaders.
The rise of the killing machines is documented, including tanks, battleships, submarines, aircraft and some of the biggest guns ever built.
Animals conscripted into war service - carrier pigeons, donkeys, camels and even a German messenger dog - also feature.
