APRIL was a frenetic month for the versatile pony club mounts with Sydney Royal closely followed by two NSW Pony Club state championship events.
No sooner than the final ribbons were awarded in Sydney, many families were re-packing floats and trucks for the trip to Coonamble for the state sporting and campdrafting finals.
NSW faced stiff competition in the sporting events from some determined Queenslanders who made the trip across the border to collect many of the age champion awards.
The home state, however, shone through in the cattle events taking home the champion state team in the campdrafting with top runs from Clancy Martin, Merriwa; Abbey Mackaway, Walcha; Chloe Schultz, Gloucester, and Matthew Kelly, Wingham.
Lower Hunter, Zone 25 were the champion sporting zone and the Upper Hunter's Zone 7, champion drafting.
The pony club action then headed south to Bong Bong Racecourse, Bowral, hosting its first state dressage event.
The immaculate arenas and green scenery inspired a record-breaking performance from under 13 years champion Tyara Smith, Helensburgh, on Leanda Hello There, scoring 87.5 per cent.
The champion zone award went to the Zone 24 team of Sophie Walker, Matcham Valley; Lexy Stansfield, Cooranbong; Shilo Harvey, Tall Timbers, and Hollie McIntyre, Wyong.
