AGE is no barrier when it comes to ute musters - just ask Carolyn East.
The 72-year-old Blackett resident travels to ute musters across the country in her 1980 AZ Holden ute.
And she'll be competing at the new Farming Small Areas and Lifestyle Expo Sydney Ute Muster on November 2, at the Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon, between Windsor and Richmond, in a range of categories.
Taking part in the chicks ute and best B and S ute categories, her striking blue ute is unrecognisable from the vehicle she bought five years ago.
Then it was plain white with a canopy on the back.
"It wasn't going to stay white, no way," Ms East said.
"I wanted to be able to dress it up or down.
"It's my baby."
The white outside became blue, the "1980s brown" interior became black and aerials, bulbar, side skirts, and lights were all added.
And now Ms East, along with her Maltese Terrier, Ruffy, travel to a range of different ute musters across the country.
But as much as the ute musters are about utes done up, or down, and in all shapes and sizes - it's more about the people, than the machines, for Ms East.
"I enjoy getting out and meeting people, and if you get trophies and ribbons it's a bonus.
"I have a lot of fun.
"I think I'm the oldest female on the ute circuit."
The ute has won a swag on ribbons in the past few years, about 40 in all.
Ms East said there were always so many different styles of utes on show at musters, all showcasing their owners personality.
"Some are unbelievable, it's about your own personality and how you want it."
The Ute Muster is sponsored by Windsor Holden and run by The Land and the Agricultural Societies Council (ASC) Youth Group.
ASC Youth Group vice president Georgia Clark, Wyee Point, said the event would feature a range of categories and events including a sound off and ute pull.
"The sound off will have a few categories including decibels and funniest horn."
Some of the ute categories include 4x4, BnS, classic, town, people's choice, work, chicks, feral and street utes.
Windsor Holden dealer principal Philip Clark said the company would have a site displaying its latest Commodore and Colorado utes.
"There is a rural demographic in Windsor and this will draw a large crowd of like-minded people to enjoy the utes."
