WITH the town of Hay officially recording the lowest total rainfall in the State in 2014 at just 184.2 millimetres, and parts of the district receiving even less, it was always going to be tough to find enough landholders who wished to place their ewes on display for the revamped Peppin-Shaw in March.
“We sent out an SOS last week and I am amazed that we have been able to find enough support to continue” committee chairman David Rankin said.
“Our tentative program is day one – start at Wyvern to inspect new woolshed and hear guest speaker from Fletchers; across to the Lawrence family at Amoila; out west to the Morphett family at Yamba and back to Booligal for hot lamb rolls supplied by the Hall Committee and Bayer sponsored drinks at the hotel.”
“Day two is busy – starting at the Bell property Burrabogie, the bus will next head out to the Cooinbil shearing shed; maybe onto another Paraway Pastoral property Steam Plains to inspect the new shed; across to another historical property Willurah; over to the Hooke’s family at Wargam and ending up at Bedarbidgal owned by the Matthews family.
“We could still fit in another property in the Booligal district, noting that the Peppin-Shaw is no longer a competition but a discussion in the yards and on the buses each day.
Any landholders that wish to nominate their property are asked to call David Rankin or secretary Gab Hurst as soon as possible.
The forum will be held on Tuesday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 4.
For further information or for bus bookings visit the Peppin-Shaw website. Gab Hurst can be contacted on 0409 670 707. David Rankin be contacted on 0427 938 187.
