LOT one from Roseville Park Merinos, Dubbo, sold to $24,0000 at the Rabobank National Merino Sheep Show and Ram Sale today, but it was a ram 60 lots later that made the eventual top price.
South Australian ram of the year Orrie Cowrie Titan, offered by the Dalla family, Orrie Cowrie Poll Merinos, Wurooka, topped the sale at $25,000.
The 160 kilogram sire was the heaviest ram in the sale and was purchased by a NSW and New Zealand syndicate.
Bob Orr and sons Spike and Tim, Gundarimbah stud, Parkes, and Laurie Magill and son Tony, Overland stud, Bogan Gate, will share possession of the 21.4 micron ram.
New Zealand marketing rights will be shared between Armidale stud, Ranfurly, and Maryburn and Grayshills, Tekapo.
Roseville Park Merino’s $24,000 lot was sold to a Tasmanian partnership, with full possession to Paul Weeding, Okehampton, Triabunna, Tasmania, and semen rights to Hamish and Georgina Wallace, Trefusis, Ross, Tas.
Weighing 150kg with a 18.2 micron, the Roseville Park ram was sashed champion fine-medium wool sale ram, as well as being part of the winning August shorn Merino pair.
The Coddington family’s Roseville Park stud also had the highest average of the sale, selling all nine rams offered at an average of $8388.
Overall 48 rams sold of 64 offered for a clearance of 73 per cent, averaging $4904, with rams going to six states.
