SOPHIE Watson from the North West group took out The Royal Agricultural Society/Agricultural Societies Council Merino Sheep State Judging Competition final at Sydney Royal Show.
Ms Watson grew up around Merinos, working with her family on their Maister Swap Merinos, Kentucky, stud.
She said they run fine wool, superfine and ultrawool Merinos.
She competed at the Royal Canberra Show earlier in the year where she came third and qualified to come to Sydney.
Ms Watson said she has always enjoyed working with Merinos.
She will now compete in the National Merino Sheep Young Judges Championship, which will get underway shortly.
Reserve champion went to Angus Dawson from the Central Northern group.
Third place went to Peter Brooker, from the Rabobank National Merino Sheep Show and Ram Sale, Warren.
Fourth to Tessa Coddington from the North West group and fifth to Brooke Sewell from the Castlereagh group.
There were 16 competitors in the state competition.
