TATTYKEEL Poll Dorset stud, Oberon, has had a perfect day out at the Sydney Royal Show, winning every supreme interbreed broad ribbon on offer in the meat and dual purpose sheep judging.
First the stud’s team of three was placed on top of 10 other breeds to be awarded the Peter Taylor Memorial Trophy for group of one ram and two ewes.
They then went on to win the J.A. and M.Y. Gilmore Perpetual Trophy for best pair, before that pair was judged individually and sashed supreme prime lamb sire and supreme prime lamb dam.
One of the eight judges Tom Burrows, Eudunda Corriedales, Rangiora, New Zealand, said the Peter Taylor Poll Dorset group was made up of an excellent line of soft handling animals.
“A very good ram at the top of the group, and two very even ewes – I thought the muscle tone on these sheep was outstanding,” he said.
“When you look at them they are smooth and full of meat right over.”
A group of Border Leicesters from Wattle Farm stud, Temora, were placed second in the Peter Taylor group, while the Suffolk team from Bowen stud, Millthorpe placed third.
In the pairs judging, made up of the grand champion ram and ewe from each breed, the Suffolks were placed second, and White Dorpers were third.
The supreme prime lamb dam exhibited by Tattykeel was selected from the pen of two ewes, showing milk teeth only, shorn class during judging on Thursday.
The stud’s ram was the senior and grand champion Poll Dorset, after winning the ram showing milk tooth only, shorn, class.
