THE conclusion of the Merino sheep judging at Canberra Royal show is a highlight as each wool type is sashed with a supreme exhibit.
The judging is categorised into their specialised wool types on the basis there is no outright supreme exhibit leading into the Sydney Royal Show.
Merryville stud, Boorowa took away both supreme superfine and fine exhibits, while Tara Park stud, Boorowa, were sashed supreme in the medium wool section.
Superfine supreme went to Merryville stud’s March shorn superfine champion ram and their supreme fine wool was from their March shorn fine wool champion ram, both sired by Merryville EM Supreme.
The Tara Park supreme medium wool exhibit was from the March shorn medium wool champion ram.
Superfine judge, John Croak, stud stock manager, Australian Wool Network (AWN), Tamworth, said the quality of Merino sheep shown has been phenomenal.
“In my opinion, half the sheep here will go to Sydney Royal in a month’s time and get broad ribbons,” Mr Croak said.
“I have to make special mention of the ewes, especially the ultrafine section, there were some exceptional exhibits.”
Merryville stud were also the winners of the Koonwarra Trophy open group consisting of three rams and two ewes, March shorn.
