POLICE at Nyngan say they have solved the mystery of the missing sheep.
In April this year, several hundred sheep were reported missing by a farmer near Coolabah in the State’s far west.
Following inquiries by rural crime officers from Darling River Local Area Command, 35 of the the ewes were allegedly located on a property north of Gilgandra and another five found in Cobar.
Earlier this week a 34-year-old Cobar man attended Nyngan Police Station and was arrested and charged with stock theft in relation to a total of 68 sheep worth approximately $6000.
No information was provided by the police as the whereabouts of the rest of the sheep reported missing from April.
Nyngan police advised the arrest was a timely reminder for producers to keep a close eye on their stock, and to make sure they don't wander onto neighbouring properties. The Impounding Act 1993 clearly stipulates steps a landholder must take action if neighbouring stock wander onto their property.
Police continue to work closely with Local Land Services and local government during these investigations.
The man is scheduled to appear in Nyngan Local Court on November 25.
