SATURDAY was a big day at the Hay Merino Sheep Show for the boys from Boonoke, as they stormed home to Conargo with a swag of ribbons.
The FS Falkiner team took out the major drawcard at the Hay event - the Riverina Wool Australian champion hogget ram of the year title - which comes with a generous prize of $5000 from Riverina Wool broker Mark Bazeley, Moama.
This was the first time FS Falkiner had won the prestigious title.
It was a robust ram from FSF's Poll Boonoke stud that nudged out almost 40 other entries from 24 studs for the gong.
The 112-kilogram strong wool ram called Poll Boonoke Otway was growing a 21.3-micron fleece with a 100 per cent comfort factor.
It was a very successful show for the FSF team, which also took out the dual purpose event- pen of three ram weaners, with their team including the Australian champion hogget.
All three rams, which were May 2013-drop and March-shorn, weighed over 100kg.
FSF's also placed first in a class of 40 two-tooth medium wool rams with a Poll Boonoke ram and second in the same class with one of their Wanganella rams.
Mr Campbell also proved age had not wearied him as he took out the Ian Munro Memorial Blade Shearing competition ahead of five other entrants.
It's been a while between wins for the gun blade shearer who won the contest in its inaugural year in 1995 and again in 1997.
Second place in the blade shearing was Tim Dalla, Collinsville stud, South Australia and third was John McGrath, Landmark Ararat, Victoria.
