VICTORIAN bred fine wool grand champion ram exhibited by the Miller family, Glenpaen stud, Southern Wimmera, went on to become the supreme champion exhibit of the 2015 Rabobank National Dubbo Merino Show and Sale.
The 18 micron son of Nerstane 9.10 was held by Will Miller who took the ram through class wins beginning with the August shorn pair, the August shorn fine wool champion prior to the supreme accolade.
This ram was reserve Victorian Ram of the Year at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo, last month after taking out the fine wool championship.
The ram was also supreme Merino at Balmoral show.
Glenpaen stud was established by Rod and Sue Miller in 1989 on Snowy Plains blood and has used the Nerstane sire extensively through ET and AI within the Glenpaen stud ewe flock.
But as the ram was from Victoria it could not represent NSW in the judging for the Rabobank Supreme Merino Ram award, so that honour went to the champion sale ram from Hinesville stud, Delegate.
Exhibitor, Drew Chapman, said the 21.3 micron son of JCS Coronation 109ET which had earlier won the medium wool sale ram section title and sold at auction today for $14,000 to a Deniliquin breeder.
