Grathlyn takes out NSW Merino August shorn Pair (ram and ewe) for the second year running.
An ecstatic Grathlyn stud principal, Max Rayner, Hargraves near Mudgee, said that when Grathlyn won this award at Sydney Royal last year, if they had never gained another ribbon it wouldn't matter because that win meant so much for the family.
"Well, I'll just have to say it again. Isn't it wonderful," he said.
The superfine wool ram growing 18.3 micron wool is out of a ewe that stood last in her class at Sydney Royal in 2008, however the ram was junior champion at the Great Southern Show and Sale, Canberra, in January.
The ewe of 15.7 micron is sired by a Longford stud ram and was champion superfine ewe of the Great Southern show.
Second placing went to Langdene stud of the Cox family, Dunedoo, while third placing was awarded to the Jones family's Darriwell stud, Trundle.
