A White Suffolk ram topped the Rene stud sale on October 2 when the Mitchell family offered an impressive line up of three breeds.
This year for the first time the stud rams were sold first via the Helmsman system - 14 of 19 stud rams offered sold to a top of $4250 and averaged $2160.
Breaking down the results, the Poll Dorset flock rams sold to strong demand, with 51 of 69 offered cleared to a top of $1500 and averaged $933.
Bidding on the White Suffolk draft peaked at $1300 with 25 of 30 sold to an average of $960; the Charallais line up also topped at $1300 and averaged $966, with 35 of 39 cleared.
The top ram was bound for Wagga Wagga, secured by first time Rene buyers, the Edyvea family, Pambria White Suffolk and Poll Dorset Stud.
Co-principal Doug Mitchell said the family were very satisfied with how the three breeds presented.
“The Charallais sold well and people are starting to realise what the Charallais genetics can do for their flock,” he said.
“The White Suffolks drew buyers from a wide area and they were chasing length and muscle, and in the Poll Dorsets, which is our main breed, I saw many familiar faces.”
“It’s great to see return buyers purchasing in volume.”
